'So You're A Lettuce Fan?' Piers Morgan Probes Liz Truss Over Her Catastrophic Premiership
The ex-PM said the long-running lettuce gag is “just a puerile joke”.

- •Liz Truss's economic policies led to her downfall, and she's now deflecting blame onto the Bank of England and her colleagues.
- •Truss's book, 'Bank Job,' is a self-serving attempt to shift responsibility for her failures and promote her own ideology.
- •The former PM's criticism of the British 'Deep State' and the Bank of England is seen as a thinly veiled attack on the UK's institutions and a call for radical change.
Piers Morgan mocked former prime minister Liz Truss by asking if she was a "lettuce fan" during a tense interview this week.
The YouTube host was referring back to the Daily Star stunt which set up a livestream of a lettuce after Truss unveiled her mini-Budget, and asked which would last longer: the prime minister or the vegetable.
The lettuce won as Conservative MPs kicked the PM out of office after her £45 billion of unfunded tax cuts rocked the economy, sent the pound into decline, sent inflation soaring and put pension funds on edge.
The Bank of England had to step in to steady the markets and Truss was removed from No.10 after just 49 days.
Four years later and her name is now associated with economic failure – and the shelf life of a lettuce.
Over on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the presenter asked Truss: "First of all, just a question that has always interested me - do you like lettuce? Do you eat lettuce?"
Truss replied: "I like all kinds of vegetables, yes."
Morgan said: "So, you're a lettuce fan?"
Truss said: "Well, it's just a puerile joke, Piers, isn't it?
"And what I'm saying in my book is we have a problem in Britain, we have a fundamental problem that our system is broken.
"I tried to fix that, unlike most other prime ministers, who just go along with what the system wants.
"I tried to come in and change it, and I just don't find jokes about it particularly funny. I think our country is in a massive state of crisis and continues to be a state of crisis."

The ex-prime minister is currently promoting her latest book, Bank Job, which blames the Bank of England and her predecessors for her struggles in office.
Truss, who has aligned herself more with the pro-Donald Trump MAGA movement since leaving office, also told Morgan: "I tried to change things and I was sabotaged by the Bank of England also, of course, by my own colleagues in the Conservative Party, because the system doesn't want to change.
"And that is a very, very serious situation for a country to be in. Yes, our friends in America have noticed that.
"Yes, our friends around the world have noticed that. And the reason I've written my book is, I'm trying to tell people about what needs to change and how to fix it, because we're not going to fix it by just putting another party and another prime minister in Downing Street.
"If we don't change the system, if we don't make the Bank of England accountable again, if we don't dismantle the British 'Deep State', nothing will change."
Morgan replied: "A lot of people think this is a load of old self-serving flannel because ultimately you're responsible for what you did along with your chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng."
